The A to Z Blogging Challenge is underway!
If you haven't heard of it, check out the A to Z blog and join
in the fun.
Here at Untethered Realms, we're taking on
the Challenge as a group. Each day, one of us will share a
fantastical creature that may be from one of our books, a favorite movie, or
something we came up with as entertainment.
R is for REDS!
What are Reds? They’re creatures that I made up for my
futuristic thriller, Ruby’s Fire. It
takes place on a very changed earth in 2099, at a boarding school for homeless
teens. The school is located in Skull's Wrath, in the middle of a vast desert.
I won’t say exactly what Reds are comprised of, but I will
say that Thorn, the youngest kid, makes a Red for a competition that
will hopefully bring he and his sister, Ruby badly needed cash. I’m also
an illustrator, and here's a black and white picture I did of the Reds. The amazing
digital illustrator, Jay Montgomery, created the color image for my Ruby’s Fire cover, and here's Ruby with one of the Reds.
Want to guess what a Red is made up of? Fire away—except for
those people who have already read Ruby’s Fire and know! I'll tell you if you’re
warm, but I won’t tell you exactly what the Red is. For that, you’ll have to
read the book.
Drat you. Yet another book I lust after. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteA Red? Blood, beetroot and passion. And cochineal. And fire. To begin with.
A book I MUST read!
ReplyDeleteLike you Ellie, this book is high on my TBR list. Pondering what a red is may have me kicking a couple of other books out of order to find out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great animal-love the bird who seems to be made up of leaves at least that would be one part:)
ReplyDeleteSkull's wrath...a hook of a name if I ever heard one! I must read it based solely on the town alone!
ReplyDeleteI loved this book. Keep writing, Catherine.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child, I LOVE your guess!
ReplyDeleteEllie & Angela, I do hope you read it!
Birgit, you are warm...
River, yup, I do love naming things, and I have a special place in my blackened heart for Skull's Wrath.
M, I'm so glad you read and liked Ruby's journey!
Reds look awesome! Love the picture you drew of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Cherie, I want my own Red as a pet.
ReplyDeleteNothing like a fiery bird to whet the imagination!
ReplyDeleteReds look like lovely creatures. It's a gorgeous cover for Ruby's Fire.
ReplyDeleteThey look like flying seaweed with faces. Kinda cute :)
ReplyDeleteRed/ruby/scarlett/blood red---I love the color. Wishing you great success.
ReplyDeleteStopping by on the 21st day of the #Challenge. Congratulations on a unique theme. I can tell you are making new blogging friends.

ReplyDeleteFlying seaweed with faces, I've gotta give that guess the prize for originality.
